Antonio Gismondi Pietre 2022
A briny, sharp wine of refreshment that bursts with salty lemon citrus and textured, peachy flesh. This vintage has greater richness and ripeness than the one that preceded, giving a more tropical feel to the fruit, with secondary notes of galia melon and pineapple. The vines in this particular parcel reach down to a layer of volcanic bedrock which binds all these fruits with an unmistakable aroma of bonfire smoke and lends some good tension to the acidity.
A 50/50 mix of Malvasia di Candia and Falanghina from vines planted over rocky limestone and clay at some 400 metres altitude in the hills of Cerreto Sannita. The grapes see a four-day maceration that this year has had a more noticeable effect, drawing things into more of an orange wine territory. Pressed off the skins into steel, the wine was bottled in the spring with no additions.
As with all of Antonio's wines, it is beautifully pure, light on the palate and feels nourishing and uplifting to drink.
